Services to Gifted CKHS Students

The Mentor Program at Central Kitsap School District operates at the building level. Each junior high and high School has a staff member responsible for implementing a building plan for its gifted learners.

 At CKHS, the Building Gifted Services Coordinator works to:

• become familiar with identified gifted students
• communicate with parents
• coordinate student enrichment opportunities

The essence of the position is to be an advocate for the gifted child. The coordinator works with the gifted student, teachers, and parents (or guardians) to make the school experience relevant and meaningful for a child who needs learning at a faster pace and more complex level.

Curricular Options

• "Clustering" at Central Kitsap High School is by student self-selection. Students choose to take courses which challenge them at their ability and interest level.
• Central Kitsap High School also offers qualifying sophomores, some of whom are identified as gifted and/or highly capable, to enter into the "Achieve" program.
• Courses include Honors, Advanced, and Advanced Placement (AP) (grades 10/11/12).
